I teach English lessons to Japanese people in the Dallas area. I have been teaching English to Japanese people for 34 years and have also taught English in Japan. A language is like a river. It is very different from the environment you are used to. You feel the cold current of the water, you are afraid to swim and cling to the riverbank. Learning English in Japan provides you with a lot of knowledge about English, but it is like looking at English while clinging to the riverbank. My philosophy is that in order to learn to swim, you have to take your hands off the riverbank. You don’t translate from Japanese to English, you learn English as English. Each time you try to swim, you will feel less scared, more confident, and your swimming will become smoother. Why don’t you give it a try?
